Racists’ Money Works Too

This week, old creepy guy Donald Sterling got caught saying racist things to his weird girlfriend-type-thing or whatever you call it when someone is dating a person 50 years older than them. What Sterling said is really indefensible, and you can’t really fault the NBA for banning him for life. But the public is overreacting to the situation. As ESPN Bomani Jones pointed out, no one cared when Sterling was committing actual housing violations against minorities that hurt real people, nor did they care when he discriminated against his own staff.

What we instead care about is what he said on this tape. We are outraged he told his partially black girlfriend not to bring black people to Clippers games. It doesn’t matter that it is just a thought crime, because the media has an audio tape they can play that people can pretend to be offended by.

People who love getting offended can’t be bothered to read a complaint filed by the Justice Department documenting how he hurt actual, living human beings. We need something sensational! We need a garbling, senile 80 year old man talking to his 31 year old mistress about how she can have sex with black guys but she can’t post them on her Instagram. Nevermind the fact that the only minority hurt by his taped conversation was the mixed-race gold digger he once bought a Ferrari.

But now the political correctness brigade is off to actually hurt people because of Sterling’s comments. While the NBA is intent on taking $2.5 million from Sterling, UCLA is GIVING the man $3 million. They’ve decided to return Sterling’s donation that had been earmarked for kidney research, stating:

Mr. Sterling’s divisive and hurtful comments demonstrate that he does not share UCLA’s core values as a public university that fosters diversity, inclusion, and respect.

Who gives a shit if he doesn’t share your values? Money has a set value, and it doesn’t go down because it came from a crazy, 80 year-old racist whose hair is still creepily brown.Donald-Sterling

It doesn’t matter how evil the person is. Take their money! I would accept $3 million from that Jigsaw guy in the Saw movies. I’d be more than fine with that. All accepting the little doll’s money would mean is that I could afford to pay off my student loans, and he’d have less money to build elaborate traps to catch washed up 90’s movie stars.

The most ironic thin21293g about this is is that kidney disease actually disproportionately affects black people according to Bloomberg View:

Blacks are more than three times as likely as whites to develop kidney disease and account for a third of U.S. kidney patients. Outrage won’t help their cause.

Outrage doesn’t cure diseases, in fact I’m pretty sure stress is terrible for your body. That’s why you should always just mellow out and make the smart decision – take the asshole’s money. That’s what the Museum of Tolerance did. They already spent his cash. And they have tolerance right in their name!

The lesson here is that we should tolerate everyone – even racists. You don’t have to support their thoughts, words, or actions. But writing them off entirely is idiotic. He shouldn’t be running an NBA franchise, but that doesn’t mean everything he touches turns to poison. Racism isn’t freeze tag. In the end Sterling’s racist rant didn’t hurt anyone. UCLA’s outrage, on the other hand, undoubtedly will.
